Who is Ms Laine?

It is actually quite difficult to pen a few words to describe myself. I’d much rather like to believe that I am a person of more substance than what can be described in a few lines. But nonetheless, I shall endeavour to satisfy your curiousoty.

Background

I grew up in Sydney, in a typical Asian-Australian family. I’ve been through all levels of the Australian education system and I have and continue to uphold, primarily, Western ideals such as freedom, creativity and individualism. However, I am deeply-rooted (sometimes not of my own volition) in Eastern values as a result of my upbringing.  I am perhaps what you would call a first generation Australian.

  Half East, Half West

As I grow older, I try to immerse myself a little more in my own culture. I still maintain the Western ideals within me, but I do try to get in touch with my roots. I realise that I am probably the last person in my family (probably because I am the eldest) to hold onto any cultural heritage as my siblings have long disappeared into the realms of a Western world.

On a Personal Level

I am a creature who is in love with the literary/written world. There is something magical about what can be found in the pages of a book. The written world has always been able to take me far and beyond from where I am. Whether reading other people’s work, or writing my own, it is something that helps me put life into perspective. This is my sanctuary.

Things I Love…

This is in no particular order:
FOOD
SLEEP
BOOKS
WRITING/READING
PHOTOGRAPHY
